I have had a plain white dresser in my bedroom for years now and I have decided to make plans to update it.
I bought it from Walmart due to it’s affordability and have been pleasantly surprised at how it’s held up over the years. Especially when compared to some other budget furniture I’ve bought from places like Walmart and Ikea that seemed to essentially disintegrate within a few months timespan.
The drawers are not resisting or getting stuck when pulled, they are not lopsided, and the dresser itself is not wobbly or showing any signs of wear.
This works out for me because I can simply update the drawer handles as a cheap makeover to bring it up to modern standards.
The Current Handles

As you can see from the photo above, the dresser has a common design made from inexpensive pressed wood (or particle board) and is all white with white plastic handles.
The handles are slightly curved for and ergonomic grip.
*Apologies for the poor lighting.
How I Plan to Modernize It
The style I like the most right now is the long gold bar handle drawer pulls. I think my drawers are wide enough that they would complement the dresser nicely and make the dresser look more polished.
The base of the dresser is all squared off and flush with the floor so thankfully I can leave it alone and don’t have to add any feet or molding which would be a much more extensive project.
By simply updating the exterior hardware, I believe I can turn it into something more expensive looking like something you would find at stores like CB2, West Elm, and Pottery Barn.
I will update later with the progress as I take the next steps. 🙂
